Feversham Fall Fair News

Feversham Fall Fair is fast approaching.  The 149th edition of the fair is just three weeks away….the weekend of September 16, 17 & 18.  The Theme of this years’ Fair is “Musical Memories; The Beat Goes On”.

At the Friday night concert on Sept. 16th, we will have “Fred the DJ” performing.  Our Fall Fair Ambassador Ayla Thomson and Junior Ambassador Victoria Macdonald will be completing their terms & we will be crowning new Ambassadors.  The Executive & Directors of Feversham Agricultural Society are very proud of our Ambassadors and we thank them for being excellent Ambassadors this year and for representing the Society and the community at numerous events during the year.  Most recently, both girls attended the Ontario Miss West pageant in Walkerton & they report having a great day with other girls from the area.  Ayla also spent the weekend of August 19-21 in Toronto attending the CNE Ambassador of Fairs competition.

If you are interested in this leadership experience, contact Liane & Sierra Gillies for more information.  Email contact information – sierramgillies@hotmail.com

Saturday morning, the Fair commences with the parade which always attracts a crowd.  If you have a classic car or an antique tractor; or if you wish to place a float in the parade; or if your children would like to enter their decorated bikes; or maybe you would like to come dressed as a clown, come to the Feversham Ball Park & register your entries between 9:30-10:15 am.  The parade leaves the park promptly at 10:30 am.  If you have any questions, contact the convenor of this event, Kim Briggs.

The Antique Tractor Pull will be held on Saturday afternoon September 17th and the Field Tractor Pulls & the Truck Pull will be held on Sunday September 18th.   The committees in charge are continuing in their quest to make the Pulls a safe & enjoyable event for spectators to watch.

Feversham 4H – Beef Club will once again be having their Achievement Day on Saturday, September 17th at noon, with the 4H Invitational Show following.  Don McNalty is the leader of this club.

Wendy Weir & her committee will be having a Market Lamb Pen Show on Saturday, September 17th from 9:00am to 4:00pm.  Two categories – Heavy Weight Market Lambs and Lightweight Market Lambs.  Great Prizes to be won!

Also, under the leadership of Wendy Weir, a new 4H Club has been started – South East Grey 4H – Sheep Club.  They will be having their Achievement Day on Sunday, September 18th at 10:00am.  Following this will be the 4H Invitational Sheep Show.  Wendy advises that she is hoping for a good turnout of other 4H Sheep Clubs from around the Grey, Bruce & Simcoe areas.

The Tag Draw returns again this year.  It will be held at the Agricultural Society booth on the arena floor.  For $2.00 you can draw a number & win the corresponding prize attached to the number.  There will be a draw for 5 grand prizes.  Also, the tickets for the free Kids Draw will be at the same table.

AFTER MUCH CONSIDERATION, the Feversham Agricultural Society has decided to CANCEL THE FALL FAIR DANCE.   We are very aware that the dance has always been a highlight of the Fair & a great way to end the day.  However, for this year, The Feversham Agricultural Society is not prepared to take on the risks associated with this event.  We will be reviewing the Dance annually and may decide to hold it again in the future.

Within the next week, we will be calling on members of the community to ask for their assistance by volunteering an hour or two at the Fair.  We appreciate the help that is so willingly given. We also thank our many sponsors who donate cash, gift certificates, merchandise or trophies to the Fair.  We acknowledge their continuing support and encourage everyone to reciprocate their sponsorship and support these businesses and organizations.

Whether you have a great photo, or woodcraft, or a craft item, or needlework or you are a quilter, or you grow a garden and have vegetables or flowers, or if canning is your thing, think about entering your wares. Bring them to the Osprey Recreation Centre on Thursday evening, Sept. 15th from 7-9 pm or Friday morning, Sept. 16th from 9-11:45 am.  It will provide personal satisfaction as well as another year of wonderful exhibits for the community to enjoy at the fair.

See you at the 149th edition of Feversham Fall Fair.
